Add draws

Configure competition formats, scoring rules, deadlines, capacity limits, and entry fees for your tournament draws on TopSeed.

Click Add Draw when setting up or managing an event to configure a competition division. You select the entrant format (Singles or Doubles), choose a competition type (Single Elimination, Round Robin, Double Elimination, World Cup, or Ladders (Bump)), set capacity caps and entry fees, configure the tournament registration deadline, and configure score reporting. Each draw operates as an independent bracket within your tournament.

1. Open draw setup

  1. On the event creation form or manage page, navigate to the draws section and click Add Draw. If updating an existing draw, click Edit Draw.
  2. Type a clear name in the Title field, such as "Men's Singles 4.0" or "Mixed Open Doubles".
  3. Under Accept registrations, confirm whether sign-ups for this specific draw should be open or paused.

2. Select format and competition type

In the Format dropdown, pick your entrant structure:

  • Singles. Individual players register and compete independently.
  • Doubles. Two-player teams register together. Players can invite a partner during sign-up or join the looking-for-partner pool.

In the Competition Type dropdown, choose how matches and advancement are structured:

  • Single Elimination. A traditional knockout bracket where a single loss eliminates an entrant. You can enable an optional third-place playoff match in advanced options.
  • Round Robin. Entrants play against everyone in their assigned group. You can configure group counts, choose placement methods (Skill Band, Snake Seeding, or Paired Random Draw), and pick a standings policy based on wins, sets, or matches played.
  • Double Elimination. Entrants must lose twice to be knocked out. The draw generates both a winners bracket and a losers bracket, supporting standard 8- and 16-player fields.
  • World Cup. A two-stage tournament format combining a round-robin group stage with a single-elimination knockout playoff. You select a qualification preset (Top 2 advance or Group winners advance) and a target group size (3, 4, or 5 entrants per group). In advanced settings, you can configure the group placement method (Snake Seeding, Skill Band, or Paired Random Draw), custom group names, seed count, standings policy, and an optional third-place playoff match.
  • Ladders (Bump). An ongoing challenge ladder where players challenge higher-ranked opponents to swap positions. Ladder draws require an event end date. You can select from presets including Standard Ladder, Competitive Ladder, and Open Social Ladder.

3. Set draw capacity limits and entry fees

Control intake and billing per division:

  • Max capacity. Toggle on Enable max capacity and enter the maximum entrant count in Max Draw Size * (minimum of 2). When registrations reach this limit, the draw displays as Full (for example, Full - 16 registered) and closes to new entries. Waitlists are not available yet.
  • Entry fees. Toggle on Require payment, choose your currency (USD), and enter the entry fee amount. The form enforces a maximum entry fee; if your amount is above it, the draw will not save until you lower it. If a draw requires payment, players submit payment details during registration. For details on how tournament proceeds reach hosts, see the payout terms in the Organizer agreement.

4. Set the registration deadline

Your tournament registration deadline determines when players can register or withdraw with an automatic refund:

  1. On the event creation form or manage page, click Set a Date (or edit your event date settings).
  2. TopSeed calculates a suggested registration deadline ahead of your tournament start date. To accept it, click Use suggested deadline.
  3. To customize the cutoff, select your desired date and time under Registration deadline.
  4. If you do not want a scheduled cutoff, click Or, I don’t need a registration deadline and select Remove the deadline. Registration stays open until you generate draws or the event starts — whichever comes first.

5. Configure scoring and reporting rules

  1. Under Score Format, select the default match scoring template suited for your sport, such as best-of-three sets, pro sets, or timed games.
  2. In the Score Reporting menu, pick how match results are recorded:
    • Player Submit + Confirm. Either player or team submits the match score, and the opponent confirms or disputes it.
    • Host Entry Only. Match scores are entered exclusively by the organizer or tournament desk and finalize immediately. See Score entry: host entry or player submit.

6. Understand locked fields after registration begins

To protect participant agreements and bracket integrity, certain settings lock once registrations begin:

  • You cannot toggle Require payment or modify the entry fee amount once participants have registered.
  • The draw Format (Singles versus Doubles) locks once registrations exist.
  • Once brackets are generated and live, the Competition Type and its division shape lock.
  • You can continue to adjust the draw title, pause new sign-ups, or increase max capacity after players have registered.

Click Save to add or update the draw.

Frequently asked questions

Can I mix different formats in the same event?
Yes. Every draw in your tournament is configured independently. You can host a Singles Round Robin alongside a Doubles Single Elimination draw in the same event.
Can I change draw settings after publishing?
You can edit format, capacity, and fee settings before players register. Once participants register or brackets are generated, format and payment fields lock to protect player entries.
What happens when a player signs up after draw capacity is reached?
When max capacity is reached the draw shows as full and closes to new entries. Waitlists are not available yet, so entrants are not queued for a spot.
What is the maximum entry fee allowed on TopSeed?
The form shows the highest entry fee the platform accepts; if you enter more, it will not save.
Can I host an event without a registration cutoff date?
Yes. Click "Or, I don’t need a registration deadline" in the date dialog. Sign-ups remain open until you generate draws or the tournament begins.
How does the World Cup format work?
Entrants are placed into round-robin groups (sizes 3, 4, or 5). After group play concludes, top finishers (either group winners only or top 2 per group) advance to a single-elimination knockout bracket to determine the champion, with an optional third-place playoff match.
Which ladder presets are available?
TopSeed offers Standard Ladder, Competitive Ladder, and Open Social Ladder presets. Each preset defines challenge rank limits, challenge limits, and rematch cooldown periods.
