Pickleball ratings: DUPR and UTR-P
Understand pickleball rating systems on TopSeed: DUPR and UTR-P ranges, conversion to DUPR-equivalents, and normalized ratings.
TopSeed supports the two primary rating systems in pickleball: Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating (DUPR) and UTR Pickleball (UTR-P). TopSeed translates provider ratings into a DUPR-equivalent score and maps it linearly onto our universal 0.1–10.0 Normalized rating scale.
Supported pickleball rating providers
TopSeed validates all pickleball ratings according to their official native ranges:
- DUPR: Accepted native range is 2.0 to 8.0, with up to one decimal place (such as 3.5 or 4.2). DUPR is the global standard for pickleball skill evaluation.
- UTR-P: Accepted native range is 1.0 to 10.0, with up to one decimal place (such as 4.0 or 6.5).
Ratings outside these boundaries are rejected during profile entry or tournament registration.
Conversion to DUPR-equivalent
To evaluate entrants fairly, TopSeed converts UTR-P ratings into DUPR-equivalents using an interpolation table of 40 established benchmark values:
- DUPR inputs are already native and require no conversion.
- UTR-P inputs map continuously to DUPR-equivalent scores. For example:
- UTR-P 2.0 maps to DUPR 2.5
- UTR-P 4.0 maps to DUPR 4.0
- UTR-P 7.0 maps to DUPR 6.0
- UTR-P 10.0 maps to DUPR 8.0
The pickleball normalization formula
Because pickleball ratings scale proportionally across recreational and pro play, TopSeed applies a clean linear calculation to the DUPR-equivalent score d:
Normalized rating = (d - 2.0) / 6.0 * 10
- A baseline DUPR rating of 2.0 reaches TopSeed's rated floor of 0.1.
- A maximum DUPR rating of 8.0 reaches the maximum scale value of 10.0.
- The resulting value is rounded once to a single decimal place.
