On TopSeed, players can be registered on their behalf by a parent or legal guardian using Managed Players. Guardians handle sign-up, entry payments, and communications from their own account while the participant appears under their own name on the tournament roster. For adult players who need assistance signing up, hosts use Invite Players to deliver a direct registration link.

1. How managed player registrations work

TopSeed uses managed players for junior participants and family members:

  • Participant identity. The participant's full name appears in event rosters, bracket match cards, and standings tables.
  • Account ownership. The parent or guardian account handles payment authorization, receives confirmation emails, and controls withdrawals.
  • No separate login. Managed players do not need an email address, login credentials, or account verification.

2. Registering a child from the registration sheet

A guardian can add and register a child in one continuous flow:

  1. Open the tournament page and click Register.
  2. Under Who's playing?, click Register someone else. If you have already added the child, click their name chip to select them.
  3. In the inline Add a managed player form, enter the participant's First name, Last name, and Birth year.
  4. Click Save player. TopSeed creates the managed player under your account and automatically selects them as the active entrant.
  5. Choose your draws, complete any required partner or rating steps, and finalize registration.

If you are accepting a doubles partner invitation on behalf of a managed player, open the invitation link and click the child's name chip to select them. If you have not added the child yet, click Or, register someone else to create their profile and select them for the invitation.

3. Managing players on your profile

Guardians can also set up family player profiles ahead of tournament registration:

  1. Open your profile page and locate the Players section.
  2. Click Add a player.
  3. In the form, enter the child's First name, Last name, and Birth year, then click Save player.
  4. Once created, you can edit participant details or remove players who have no tournament registrations.
  5. Any managed player saved to your profile is automatically available in the Who's playing? chooser during future event sign-ups.

4. How hosts assist entrants

TopSeed does not provide a tool for organizers to manually input external credit cards or create third-party registrations directly. If a player asks you to register them:

  • Adult players. In your Manage Event console, open the Registrations tab (/events/[slug]/manage/registrations) and click Invite Players. Enter their email address to send a direct invitation link so they can register and pay under their own account.
  • Juniors and children. Direct the parent to open the tournament registration page, click Register, and select Register someone else to add the child and complete sign-up.

Frequently asked questions

Can a host register an adult player on their behalf?
No. Hosts do not take credit cards or submit registrations on behalf of adult players. Instead, open the Registrations tab in your Manage Event console and click Invite Players to send an email invitation with a direct link.
How do parents register children under 13?
Parents add their child as a managed player from their profile or directly inside the registration sheet. The parent pays and manages the entry; the child needs no login.
Does a child need an email address to play?
No. Managed players do not have email addresses or logins. All confirmation emails, match schedules, receipts, and withdrawal controls route through the parent account.
