Confirm, dispute and override scores as a host

Resolve match score conflicts, handle player disputes, confirm pending results, and enter authoritative score overrides as a TopSeed host.

As a tournament host, you can resolve score conflicts and enter authoritative match results directly from the bracket viewer or through Ask AI. When players dispute a score or fail to confirm a result, you can compare both submissions side-by-side, accept either version, or input an official override using Or, Enter Score.

1. How player score disputes unfold

In draws configured with Player Submit + Confirm, scoring disputes follow a structured workflow:

  1. One player submits set scores upon finishing the match.
  2. The opponent receives a confirmation prompt. If they believe the score is incorrect, they select Dispute and enter a note with their proposed score.
  3. The match shifts to Disputed status.
  4. Players have 48 hours to review the dispute note and agree on a corrected score.
  5. If they do not agree within that window, the dispute escalates to the tournament director (td-escalated) for official resolution.

2. Resolve a dispute in the score dialog

To resolve an escalated dispute from your tournament page:

  1. Open your event bracket and click the disputed match card.
  2. The dialog displays the Resolve screen, presenting the original submitted score alongside the opponent's proposed score, together with any explanatory dispute notes.
  3. Review the scorelines with both participants.
  4. To accept either player's reported result:
    • Click Accept [Player A]'s Score to finalize the initial submission.
    • Click Accept [Player B]'s Score to finalize the opponent's proposed score.
  5. To input a different scoreline, click Or, Enter Score. Enter the verified set scores, specify the match outcome (such as Normal, Retired, or Walkover), and submit.

3. Submit host overrides using Ask AI

You can also record authoritative match scores directly in Ask AI:

  1. Open Ask AI on your event page.
  2. Tell the assistant which match to score and provide the scoreline (for example: "Set match 4 in Men's Singles to 6-4, 7-6[5]").
  3. Because you are the organizer, the score is authoritative, auto-confirms instantly, and updates the live bracket without requiring player verification.

4. Winner-changing override rules

When overriding a match result, TopSeed enforces progression safety guards:

  • Same winner. If an override corrects a game or tiebreak score without changing who won, the scoreline updates immediately and the bracket is preserved.
  • Winner changes in Round Robin. In round robin draws, changing a winner is always permitted. The standings engine automatically recalculates group wins, set percentages, and tiebreaks.
  • Winner changes in Elimination draws. In single or double elimination, TopSeed blocks winner-changing overrides once downstream matches have been played, and there is no self-service way to reset only those downstream matches. The one reset TopSeed offers reopens a published draw for regeneration: it deletes the whole bracket, keeps entrants and payment records, and is available only before play starts. If a winner still needs changing at that point, email support@topseed.ai with the event link and the match.

Frequently asked questions

What happens when an opponent disputes a score?
The match enters Disputed status. Entrants have an initial window to reconcile scores, or the dispute escalates to the host for administrative resolution.
Can a host change the winner of a match that was already completed?
Yes, unless downstream bracket matches have already been played. In single or double elimination TopSeed blocks the change at that point, and there is no self-service way to reset only the downstream matches. Email support@topseed.ai with the event link and the match.
Can I override scores through Ask AI?
Yes. Open Ask AI and state the match and final scoreline (such as 'Enter score for match 3: 6-4, 6-3'). Ask AI records the authoritative score immediately.
